Aida Ashouri is a human rights attorney and activist that has advocated for the rights of marginalized people and protection of our constitutional rights for decades. She has advised immigration judges at the Los Angeles Immigration Court, provided pro bono services to immigrants facing removal, and shared know your rights information to her community responding to ICE raids. As an attorney for tenant rights, she has assisted renters facing eviction and took legal action against slum landlords that refused to do repairs. She has experience working on complex lawsuits involving multi-million dollar injury complaints. Aida has also worked in the City Attorney’s Office as a deputy city attorney, where she conducted eleven trials before a jury, involving issues ranging from domestic violence to DUI, and advised City Council on issues during Trump’s first term such as a program providing pro bono assistance to immigrants, and protecting the city from the persecution of religious minorities. As an activist, she has lobbied for expanded protections for migrant workers and asylum law reform. In addition, she also served as an elected board member of the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council, where she advocated for expanded renter protections, protecting the right to protest, infrastructure to make our streets safer, and programs to safeguard our environment and improve air quality. As City Attorney, she will bring this breadth of experience to make our streets safer, hold those in power accountable, and support renters and workers.
As an activist, I know how important it is to uphold the right to free speech, especially as it is under attack.
The war on drugs has resulted in a punitive system that has increased poverty and inequality. I would prioritize care, services, and rehabilitation.
I will hold city officials accountable for ethics violations.
